Phnom Penh municipal, On Tuesday, November 03, 2020, the Cambodia Agricultural Sector Diversification Project (CASDP), funded by the World Bank and the Royal Government of Cambodia, organized its first provincial-level dissemination workshop at the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Phnom Penh municipal, presided over by Dr. Sar Chetra, Deputy Secretary General of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries and Director of Cambodia Agricultural Sector Diversification Project, Dr. Sorn San. Deputy Director General of General Directorate of Animal Health and Production (GDAHP) and Mr. Hin Pech, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Phnom Penh municipal. The workshop objectives include: (1) to disseminate project information among agricultural cooperatives, producer organizations, SMAs, farm product buyers/collectors, livestock farm owners, slaughterhouse owners, fish farm owners, local authorities and other stakeholders in the target areas; (2) to inform about the project’s financing support that includes grants to supplement investment capital as well as Matching Grant and loans from participating financial institutions (PFI) for Agriculture Cooperatives (ACs), Producer Organizations (POs) and their members; (3) to identify interested agricultural cooperatives, producer organizations, collectors, owners of SMAs, livestock farms, slaughterhouses, fish farms who may come with their proposals on agricultural diversification and business plans to get Matching Grant and loans from PFI; and (4) to disseminate information about environmental and social safeguards, and gender mainstreaming.
The Capital Phnom Penh is the major farm produce concentration hub where there is a myriad of commercial activities such as product collection, sale of semi and finished-products (in bulk/wholesalers and retails), materials and agricultural input supply. So agricultural cooperatives and small- and medium-sized agribusiness can consider choosing one or more business transactions to run so as to meet the need of the local consumes as well as for exports.
This workshop was participated by representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, the Ministry of Rural Development, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Phnom Penh municipal, agricultural cooperatives, producer organizations, farm product buyers/collectors, owners of SMAs, livestock farms, slaughterhouse and fish farm, local authorities, representatives from technical service providers (TSP-ARD) and colleagues from CASDP of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
